1B - Mrs. Diane Cole

This year in grade one we will be focusing on learning to read, developing good reading skills, and acquiring a life-long love of reading. Reading is the foundation to success in all subject areas. Reading and language arts are integrated with all subjects.

It is important that the children develop good work habits. What they learn now will follow them throughout their academic careers. Major emphasis is placed on listening attentively, following directions, completing assigned work on time, neatness, and being courteous at work and play.

The children learn about God and His special gift to us - His Son, Jesus. The children are encouraged to follow in Jesus' footsteps by being kind, loving, caring and respectful neighbors, thus allowing them to realize that every child is a unique and special gift from God.

Helpful Hints

  • Read to your child every day. Switch places and have your child read to you.
  • Offer your child a wide variety of reading materials.
  • Visit the library often.
  • Check your child's homework folder every night. Folders are sent home every day and should be returned to school the very next morning.
  • Praise your child often and encourage him/her to do his/her best.
