4A - Mrs. Mary Lou Johnson
Greetings!
Having your children in my class this year is a pleasure, and with that in mind, I have set as a goal to follow St. Mary's mission statement…enhancing in each child a strong sense of Catholic values. I hope to help each child deepen his/her Christian values through religious teachings, sharing of ideas, and developing an awareness that God is our example and model of Christian life.
We will be very busy this year. There is just so much to learn. For more information about each subject, take a look at the next screen.
Religion
We study the eight Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, and the Liturgical calendar. We also say the Rosary, and pay special attention to the Mysteries of the Rosary.
Language Arts
In the fourth grade, the purpose of the Language Arts program is to develop an integrated curriculum of reading, writing, listening and speaking through multi-cultural themes and literature based materials. Language Arts is also interrelated with other subject areas such as social studies and science.
Mathematics
Our mathematics program builds upon the basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in developing the skills of computation, problem solving, whole number operations, fractions, algebraic equations and decimals.
Social Studies
The social studies program focuses on the five regions of the United States and the history, geography, economics and citizenship of each region. South America is also studied as an expanded learning experience.
Science
The purpose of the science program is to explore the areas of life science, earth science, physical science, and health science. Investigation, observation, prediction, and critical thinking are skills developed within this subject area.
