100 Years
8A - Mr. Mark Flint
Welcome to Grade Eight! The long-awaited year has finally arrived! Eighth grade is the culmination of a student's St. Mary's experience. It is a year full of exciting activities, new challenges and broadening horizons as our graduating class concludes its St. Mary's journey and prepares for the new journey into high school.
There is a painting adorning the wall of 8A that depicts another journey. It portrays the story of Jesus on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection. Two disciples are walking along conversing with Jesus but they fail to realize who he is until "...he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him…" (Lk. 24:30-31)
This story and painting symbolize the eighth grade experience at St. Mary's wonderfully. Eighth grade students, like the disciples on the road, bring with them to the educational setting a unique collection of needs. During their eighth grade journey, our students develop their cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs as did the disciples on the road to Emmaus in their conversation with Jesus. At St. Mary's, we accomplish this by means of a rigorous academic program, enriching activities, opportunities for prayer and worship, and supportive and caring advisement.
Through our challenging academic environment in which "walking the walk of discipleship" is encouraged, our eighth grade program inspires students to "recognize" Jesus in their everyday lives by being the best they can possibly be, "opening their eyes" to the future and all it has in store for them. Enjoy the journey! ad.
